About My name is Jason and I am a self professed track junkie. Set your way back machine to 2003, grab a seat and i will tell you my story. After 7 years of riding on the street, incessant talk of my big cross country ride and many failed attempts to recruit travelling buddies, i set off from DC to San Francisco and back again with the stated goal of using only secondary roads whenever possible (http://west.splyn.com). well, i did it, and loved it all, even the parts that sucked. And i managed the entire trip without even one minor incident (not including "grazing" a dog or scaring the crap out of a kid in the middle of the road). A few weeks aftter my triumphant return, i was out riding with some friends and made three big mistakes, in a row which resulted in my lowsiding my favorite posession. Immediately after i got up, i knew exactly what three things i did wrong, but i needed to find a place to retrain myself. So i decided to sign up for Keith Code's California Superbike School with Bitter Little Man. The class was excellent and i began to learn what these sport bikes are all about. But the downside of the class was i discoved that the track is more addictive than crack and it was all down hill from there. That winter, i picked up a salvaged R6 to use as my track bike, sold my car and bought a pickup truck. the following season, i was at the track about every other weekend. i crashed a lot, mostly trying to figure out decreasing radius corners, but my lap times steadily dropped. Now, i still have the same track bike, but i have done the requisite track prep to it. steel brake lines, hardened case covers, track bodywork, aftermarket clipons, solid rearsets, race mount slipon, jet kit, revalved/resprung suspension and of course, sticky tires. Now with my track bike screaming, i get to run video for Shodow Video, coach with Sportbike Track Time and flip off my friends when i pass them on the track (or get passed as teh case may be). when not on the track, i am roaring around the DC metro area on my Aprilia and teaching the MSF course for the state of Maryland and making assorted web products (like this web site) for my clients. So if you ever see an orange R6 or a black Falco that hurts your ears, its just me. |
